Process
The time frame that a typical residential design takes can range from 1 month to 3 months once the contract is signed. This is dependent on how complex the design is and how fast we can agree on the details.
My design process is as follows:
Use the contact form to tell me about your project and to request a 15 minute online call to see if I am a good fit for your project.
If we are a good fit, I will schedule an initial on-site consultation that will last about 1-1.5 hours. The fee is $150 due at the time of the visit. I will discuss your preferences, ideas and challenges that you have with the site. I will do a partial site analysis, take some pictures & videos, along with some measurements. An estimate for the complete design process will be provided usually within 3 business days of the initial consultation.
If you have architectural drawings of the site, please have those available to make the most of the consultation.
Upon receipt of the signed estimate agreement, I will schedule another site visit to your garden to get any additional measurements of the space, analyze the sun, take a soil sample, and take any additional pictures necessary to get the project started.
The next step is the creation of a base map of the existing landscape which will set the stage for the design plan. I will email over screenshots as a progress report along with the soil sample results.
With the base map created, I’ll begin to think through different layouts of the space. This is done by creating sketches of the various possibilities, ultimately selecting the best one. The layout will then be rendered in 2D & 3D.
If you request new pathways, driveways or any other hardscaped areas, material options may be presented to you via email to review and approve before moving forward. Once approved, the plan will be updated.
Based on the area requirements, hand picked plant options will be selected and sent over via email to get feedback from you. Once they are approved a selection of them will then be added to the plan.
An online meeting presenting the preliminary design will be scheduled. This generally takes 1 - 1.5 hours depending on how complex the project is. A copy of the presentation will be sent to you following the presentation for you to review and give feedback.
Once I receive your feedback, I will work on making any revisions necessary to the plans for your review.
After your approval I will work on making the final touches to the plans so that the plans can be implemented by a contractor of your choice.
Colored plans will then be submitted to the printers for an additional fee.
Once the printed plans are available, I will schedule a time for delivery and send over the care instructions.
Once the printed plans have been hand delivered, the digital version will be emailed over for you to download and keep on hand.
